Weekend Recap

Does anyone else feel like summer weekends are that much shorter than winter ones? I swear they are gone in a blink of an eye. This weekend was no different. Friday included a big hair chop cut and Zach Brown Band at Fenway. On Saturday, my best friend came to town, Brazil and Columbia won,  and I finally made it to Toro. Sunday was all about basking in the sun. And just like that we're back to Monday!

Of course, weekends are for proper breakfasts.

Swan Boats.

I would never post this normally,
but I was over the moon with a reason to wear my red cowboy boots!

Weekend Recap

Happy official first week of summer! I can't believe that in less than 2 weeks we'll be celebrating the 4th of July. I'm looking forward to long beach days filled with sun and sand games followed by night time dance parties. That truly is the dream. Or at least my dream. We got a little taste this weekend when we hit up Winthrop Beach. Along the way we stumbled upon Millie's Kitchen, where we picked up some Italian subs. Oh my goodness. I'm going back that beach just so I have an excuse to get these bad boys. Last night we met up with friends to catch the USA v. Portugal game. It was awesome to hear everyone chanting U-S-A, U-S-A! Nothing like a little world cup fever to bring people together.

I should also mention that my little blog turned the big 1 year yesterday. I cannot believe I've kept it up this long and more than anything am grateful for the new experiences and people it has brought into my life. I can't wait to see what it becomes!

Around Town ... La Brasa

In case you hadn't noticed, I love food. Most of my outings usually revolve around food. It should be embarrassing but eh, I'm okay with it. My most recent food outing was to La Brasa. New to Somerville, I made it here by way of le boyfriend. Walking in, I instantly knew I would like it. It's a little industrial but yet super homey. Let's just say, it made me feel "cool" but not so cool that I wasn't approachable (that makes sense, right?). The menu is tapas style, which really works here because although we ordered 6 items off the menu (yes, there were only 2 of us), we left satisfied and not stuffed. The menu brings together influences from Mexico, Peru (!), the Middle East, and so on. My favorites of the night were the Tiradito and the Benton's ham with ginger-rhubarb chutney. Oh, and you should probably check out their great cocktail list too ... if you're into that sort of thing.

Weekend Recap

Have I mentioned how much I love family time? Because I. LOVE. IT. and THEM. Living across the country has been a challenge but it makes the time we do spend together that much more special. Of course, Patty came in being her most fabulous self and left me with multiple words of wisdom ("You should really take up piano and French this summer to round out your cultural education"). Dad thought I was freezing him to death for fun even though I explained to him that 50 degrees means spring in Boston (he lives below the equator). Nick, the musician, fell in love with the Beehive in the South End because who wouldn't? We all are so different and yet, kinda exactly the same. There was a lot of hugging, talking about childhood memories, and of course jokes ( or "yokes" as my accented parents say). It was the best.

Stay: The Copley Square Hotel (family loved it)

Visit: Boston Duck Tours // JFK Library and Museum // Newbury Street

Eat: Island Creek Oyster Bar (my favorite place in all of Boston) // The Beehive // Papa Razzi // The Merchant // The Met Back Bay (Build Your Own Bloody Mary)

Mom and me (I?)

Dad trying to keep it together in the "cold."

Samuel Enrrique and Samuel Nickolas.
Yes, that's two R's. We love our double letters in this family.

Not even a little embarrassed about this one.
Who say's you can't be a tourist in your home?

Hope you all had just as good of a weekend and happy Monday!!

Weekend Recap

Hello, 2014! Less than a week into the new year and already I feel like I am off and running. After touching down from the Dominican Republic (post to come later), I had two days to unpack and repack. We drove up to Montreal where we were greeted by below zero temperatures. Even though I was wrapped up like an eskimo, it was still a great time. Back in Boston, the snow felt like it was never ending. Regardless, seeing friends, having a date night, and enjoying a 49ers win was the best kick off to 2014 I could have asked for.

Our fourth New Years Eve together.

Le Bier Markt.
Great beer based cocktails and a very LONG list of imported beers.

If you ask people in Montreal, this is what I looked like.

Our drive home took longer with the snow storm, but it made for a beautiful view.

Friday night we braved the cold to check out State Park with our friends.
It has only been open for a few weeks but it feels like it has been around forever. The food was excellent (Kentucky Hot Brown, pictured above), they had pitchers of mixed drinks, and games! If you're in the mood for shuffle board, pool, or pin ball machines, this is your place!

My 49ers went up against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. In an attempt to make healthier snack choices, I made this roasted brussels sprout dish. Although the wrong color, it was a a hit (I'll make sure to put the recipe up soon!).

Tonight I'm off again, this time to California!
I'm already loving 2014 so much.

 Around Town ... Daddy Jones

Every so often my friends and I take a break from grad school to check out new places or new-to-us places. I drove by Daddy Jones for almost a year until finally walking in. Being a wine girl, I didn't try the cocktails but let me tell you about the food. The menu is made up of Greek specialties and they're all pretty fantastic. If you're looking for a relaxed, cozy atmosphere for a girls night, I would recommend this place.

Weekend Recap.

This weekend was filled with friends, good times, and NO photos. What?! As much as I love my phone, sometimes I hate that I bring it out as often as I do. Imagine my surprise when I sat down to write this and realized - I don't have any pictures to go with my post! Instead of being disappointed, I'm actually quite happy that I was having such a good time I completely forgot about my little device. What could have possibly made me forget, you ask? Well for starters, my new favorite restaurant, Dalí. Colin and I had date night there on Friday and even though we waited for 45 minutes it was completely worth it. Decor - amazing. Sangria - great. Patatas bravas - excellent. Rabbit - mouth watering. The list goes on. Additional cool factor, this is Boston's first ever tapas bar and has been open for 20+ years. Next up was watching a big college football game with die-hard fans. LSU vs Alabama to be exact. For about 2 hours, I almost convinced myself that I was part of the LSU alumni crew. Geaux tigers. Sunday consisted of yet another football game, the 49ers. Even though we didn't win, I was so happy that my friends trekked their way to The Point just to support me by watching the game.

Last but certainly not least, Sunday was also Patty's birthday. Even though I could not be with my beautiful mama, I know she was showered with love (I know this because her friends have literally taken her out almost every day for the last week!). Cheers to you, Mom!

(This was taken in April when she came to Boston to visit. Isn't she the cutest?!)

Weekend Re-cap.

I can't believe this is the last week of August and most importantly, the last week of summer vacation for me. This summer has been pretty amazing and I'm trying to milk every last bit of it. Even though I am still working on getting my new place organized, I was able to have some fun this weekend. My friend Meghan bought a sailing lesson coupon that we were able to use on Saturday. It was a beautiful day to be out on the Charles River here in Boston. Colin and I also tried out another restaurant in Cambridge, called Rendezvous. It was pretty delicious. On Sunday, we did some more home improvements and then had a BBQ at our friend's. As always, the weekend seemed to fly by. How are you spending the last days of summer?

Our new coffee table that I am in love with. Plus it was a steal!

Until the new couch arrives, we are making do with camping chairs.

Vintage cocktail glasses, a gift from Colin's father.

Ready to sail!

Drinks at Rendezvous.

Nothing like a summertime BBQ.
*Recipe for the pasta salad to come!

Berry pie to top off the weekend. Yum.

Weekend Re-cap.

Does anyone else wish that there were more days in a week? Last week was terribly busy and my postings took a hit. Sincerest apologies. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Boston finally had some sunny days after a week of rain and it was wonderful. I spent most of the weekend doing what I love the most, organizing! I had offered Colin's mother to help clean out her basement and we finally tackled it this past Friday and Saturday. It was a lot of work and there's still more to do but I can't tell you how proud I am of it. I will be posting more about it later on this week along with some helpful tips. Colin and I spent most of our Sunday at the Cambridge Antique Market. It took us 2 hours to browse through the entire space and if we could have, we would have bought everything we saw! Four floors of antique furniture, art, clothing, glassware, etc. I can't wait to go back once we are settled in our new place for some extra accessories. Last but not least, we celebrated Peruvian Independence day with our friends and Pisco Sours. Yum!

Before heading up to New Hampshire to organize, I made sure to stop
for some caffeine (iced chai tea) & a little treat (lavender biscuit), courtesy of Three Little Figs

Before ...

After!

The Way Way Back was way way good.

My mother always made my family brunch on Sunday mornings, now I do it too!

This 80's designer dress was the perfect shade of vintage pink.

Oh hello, Salvatore Ferragamo Vara flats.
Too bad this 9 1/2 pair is way too big for my size 7 feet.

I've never been much for fur but this capelet was amazing, plus it had pockets.

Novelty salt and pepper shakers, can you spot the Beavers?

Pisco Sour to top off the weekend :)

Did you do anything special this weekend? Let me know, I love comments!

Weekend Re-Cap.

Another weekend, another new restaurant (or 2)! Last Friday, Colin took me out for a belated birthday celebration. We finally tried out Bergamot, a restaurant that I've been driving past for the last year. If you get the chance, try out their daily $39 Prix-Fix menu (appetizer + entrée + dessert).

Saturday mornings are reserved for the Union Square Farmer's Market where I picked up these beautiful flowers. *Another thing that has been passed down from Patty

We ended Saturday by going to see This Is The End. I, along with the entire theater, laughed from beginning to end. By the way, if you are in your mid-twenties go see this movie. The ending alone will flood you with tween year memories. *hint hint: B.S.B.

Living in New England means hot & humid summers. The best escape is the beach. Crane Beach, located in Ipswich, MA, is gorgeous. I spent my Sunday here, playing bocce ball & tanning with friends.

Newburyport, MA

We ended the weekend with dinner at Mission Oak Grill in Newburyport, MA. I love this little town and have brought most of my guests here. Patty loves it because she loves the water and she says it reminds her of being in Europe.

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend as well!
